Hosanna Youth Project

One big problem in Uganda is the number of pupils who drop out of school before they have completed their education. The biggest cause of this is the inability to pay school fees. Although there is supposed to be access for all to Government schools through the Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE), in practice this is not fully implemented yet.

This leads to young people leaving school and looking for work, turning to ‘sugar daddies’ or prostitution to find the fees to continue. Initially we identified the problem with secondary school girls and wanted to provide a safe environment for an opportunity to return to school, so Hosanna House was born.

Hosanna House is our home for girls who are either at Secondary School or working with us in order to go back to education.
This is located on plot of land very close to Masaka Town and to the largest Secondary School in the area. After thinking about this project for some time it happened very quickly, we were shown the plot on a Friday and 6 days later it was ours! The plot had a half finished house on it that we have completed.
We then built block with 3 rooms that can house up to 9 young ladies and a toilet / shower block.

As we continued to grow we gathered a few boys who also needed help and we had to rent a room in town to house them.

In July 2010 we agreed to look after a group of young people from another ministry in the town, ‘He Will Provide’ so our family grew by 10! We then employed a full time residential social worker, Sylvia, to look after our growing family. At the same time we moved the boys to the house where ‘He will Provide’ was based.

In May 2011 we received a donation to enable a property to be purchased for our teenage boys to live in, this is known as Hallelujah House.

At the time of writing we are now caring for about 30 young people, providing education, food and housing. These are spread over 5 sites. Hosanna House (Masaka) has 7 girls and a young child, Hallelujah House (Masaka) has 5 boys, 4 young ladies live at Bwala and at the school we have Hosanna House with 6 girls and Hallelujah House with7 boys.

During this year we hope to build an extension to Hosanna House in Masaka as the current rooms are becoming cramped. The cost adding these 3 extra rooms will be about £6000 ($10,000).

Christ's Embassy Primary School, Kasaka

Christ’s Embassy Primary School, Kasaka

Our Nursery & Primary School provides education for children from 4 to 14 to a high standard. In Uganda after 2 or 3 years of nursery school children complete 7 years of primary education at the end of which they take a national exam (Primary Leaving Exam – PLE). In 2021 all our pupils passed this exam. There is more information on this school here

CLIA Christian Secondary School, Kasaka

Love in Action Christian Secondary School

Our Secondary School set in a village called Kasaka, near Lake Victoria provides 4 years of education leading to O Level National exams. We currently have around 100 pupils. In 2021 all our pupils passed their exams and we were place in the top 30% of all secondary schools in Uganda.

Kasaka Health Clinic

We built and equipped a much needed Health clinic in Kasaka

With the help of a group of British medical students, we have been able to build and equip a much needed Health clinic in Kasaka. This will provide healthcare where it is most needed.

At present, we employ 2 full-time nurses. They are responsible for the healthcare of the children at both schools. Each child has a health check every term, and a vaccination service is offered to all our children.

Farm

In 2020 we planted about 8 acres of coffee plants to help provide income for the schools

As a responsible organisation we need to be working towards generating income within Uganda to support the work amongst children and young people. With this in mind we have allocated land at our Kasaka site to run a farm. We are able to grow sufficient maize to provide porridge for all our primary school children every day. We also breed and rear pigs both for sale and to gift to families around the area.

Boarding Section

Help us allow children to board at school

It is very common for students in Uganda to board at school and following the COVID epidemic and our excellent exam results more pupils would prefer to board at school. During 2020 we were able to build dormitory for 40 girls and the picture show our latest building for the boys. We now need to equip this building with beds, mattresses, a solar lighting system and curtains. To do this will cost £7000 please help us buy buying an item for this new dormitory. See our shop page here for the items we need.

Mini Bus

Help us purchase a newer minibus

Our mini bus has served us well for about the last 7 years, but is now getting old and is too small for the number of children we look after! We plan to replace it with a 30 seater mini bus.

School Generator

Please help us to supply power to the schools.

Our schools do not have access to mains electricity, the nearest line is over 7 mile away through the forest. We have a number of solar systems that give light in the evenings and run a small computer lab. However we really need to replace the worn out small generator that runs our water pump and give some extra capacity for power to some of the classrooms. We would like to purchase a 20Kva gererator with a Perkins engine at a cost of about £9000 installed.

The cost of this project is about £9,000 of which we have raised about £1000 so far.
