About Us

what we do

Love in Action is a Christian organisation

Love in Action is a Christian organisation that seeks to demonstrate God’s love in practical ways, by providing support, education and care for orphans and needy families in Uganda, especially those families affected by HIV/AIDS.

We achieve this by identifying and supporting existing community-based initiatives with funding, advice and resources. We also create new projects to respond to unmet community needs.

The Story of Love in Action

Love in Action was founded in April 2004 by Alan and Beryl Went from Colchester, UK. They have been based in Masaka, Uganda, where they have dedicated their lives to serving the community and transforming lives through education and care.

How It All Began

In 2003, Alan and Beryl arrived in Masaka and opened an internet café to provide a safe, family-friendly environment, free from harmful content. It was at this café that they met two local men with a deep desire to help the children in their village, Kyetume.

Inspired by their vision, and with the support of donations from their silver wedding anniversary appeal, Alan and Beryl built a primary school for the children of Kyetume. This was later followed by a secondary school and a child sponsorship programme, marking the beginning of Love in Action’s mission.

A Home for Vulnerable Girls

Recognising the urgent need to support girls who had dropped out of school due to financial struggles, Hosanna House was established. This provided a safe place for young girls to continue their education and avoid the dangers of exploitation.

Growing Impact in Kasaka

As the work expanded, Love in Action was invited to develop a primary school in Kasaka, a small village in Bukakata sub-county, near Masaka. This project quickly became the main focus of the organisation.

Over the years, the school has grown significantly, now including:

A fully developed primary school with multiple classrooms

A secondary school

A health clinic serving the school and surrounding community

A farm to support sustainable food production for pupils

Adapting to Change

In 2015, the internet café was closed as mobile internet became widely available, reducing the demand for public internet services. However, Love in Action’s work had already expanded far beyond its beginnings, focusing on education, healthcare, and community development.

Continuing the Mission

Today, Love in Action remains dedicated to empowering children, supporting families, and strengthening communities. Explore our website to learn more about each of our projects and how you can get involved in bringing hope and transformation to Uganda.

    Sustainable Agriculture: Feeding the Future

To support our schools, we operate a farm surrounding the school, helping to provide nutritious meals for pupils while promoting sustainable agriculture. We also have over 6000 coffee plants to support the runnng of the schools.

    Healthcare: Caring for the Community

Our Health Clinic in Kasaka serves both the school and the surrounding population, providing essential medical care and improving community well-being.

Our Team: Local Leadership, Lasting Impact

Love in Action employs over 65 Ugandan staff, ensuring that our work is led by local expertise and invested in long-term, sustainable change.

Help us build new secondary school classrooms

Our secondary school currently has 4 classrooms and 180 pupils, as we grow we need to add 4 more classrooms as we planned. These rooms will provide a computer suite, art room and space for additional subject teachers.

Each room will cost about £20,000 to build and equip (£30,000 for the computer suite), please help us with this exciting project.
